Prof. Naresh Tandon is Emeritus Professor in CART since 2020. His areas of specialisation are machine health monitoring, noise engineering, vibration and acoustic emission monitoring.
Prof. Tandon obtained his B.Tech. (Mechanical Engg.) Degree from Institute of Technology, BHU (1976) and PhD from IIT Delhi in 1991. He started his research career at IIT Delhi in 1977, became Professor in 2005 and was elevated to Professor HAG scale in 2015. Prof. Tandon was Head of Industrial Tribology, Machine Dynamics and Maintenance Engineering Centre (ITMMEC) at IIT Delhi from 2005 to 2012. He has more than 44 years of experience of working on research and industrial consultancy projects & teaching in the areas of condition monitoring of machines and noise monitoring & control. Vibration, noise, acoustic emission and current monitoring of bearings, gears and electric motors are of special interest. He is also involved in research in the area of Tribo-dynamics. He has published more than 150 research papers in reputed journals and conferences and these papers are well cited by other researchers with more than 5300 citations. He has also published two books and contributed chapters in six books. One of the chapters published in a book edited by Prof. Robert Gao of Massachusetts university, USA is well cited. His recently published book “Vibration and Noise Engineering” (jointly with Prof. B.C. Nakra) is a textbook for senior undergraduate and post graduate students and is also useful for practicing engineers. Prof. Tandon has completed 10 sponsored research and 85 industrial consultancy projects.
Prof. Naresh Tandon received NORAD (Norway) (1980-81) and British Council (1989) Fellowships. He has received training and worked/visited universities and industries in Norway, UK, France, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Nepal. He was elected a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and The Institution of Engineers in 2014. He is a Life Fellow of Acoustical Society of India (ASI) and Indian Institution of Plant Engineers. Prof. Tandon is also a Life member of Condition Monitoring Society of India. He was awarded Sir C.V. Raman award for best paper (1994) and Prof. S. Bhagavantam award for outstanding contribution and leadership provided in the field of Acoustics (2015) by ASI. Prof. Tandon delivered 15th Dr. S.P. Luthra Memorial Lecture in 2008. He has also served as a member of the National Committee on Noise Pollution Control, Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment & Forests and was involved in the formulation of noise standards for environment, vehicles, generator sets and firecrackers. He is also a member of Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committee of INAE.
